Artist Statement

As both a composer and film-composer, my works incorporate contemporary cinematic scoring philosophies.  My concert works are frequently in that cinematic style, where the music takes you on journey with a few different stops along the way.  My film and television scores are primarily influenced by the subject matter of the project that I am scoring and the direction from the director.

Biography

Scott Meinschock writes and records music for film. Most recently he composed, arranged, and orchestrated the scores to the feature film Art Work (2023), and the short films RedShank (2022) and Welcome to Detention (2022)

Dr. Fred Hess was Scott’s first composition instructor.  While studying with him for five months, Dr. Hess helped Scott to figure out his compositional method and philosophy.  This critical discovery led Scott to composer R.J. Miller who specializes in orchestration and film scoring.  Scott worked with Professor Miller for over two years on techniques for scoring for film and television.  Also, during his time with Professor Miller, he focused on the art of orchestration.

Scott has composed concert music for various solo instruments, small chamber ensembles, and symphony orchestra.  He is currently working on new compositions to be released throughout 2020.  These will include:  another large symphonic work, a marching ensemble piece, and an art song for solo tenor and piano.

Besides composing concert works, he has also started his film-scoring career by showing an adaptable and diverse style which has allowed him to score for multiple genres.  He has demonstrated the ability to score leitmotifs and develop character themes for full symphony orchestra.  Then also being be able to minimalistic styles and sound design for horror scores, and also emotionally gripping dramatic scores.

From 2017-2018 Scott and few other musicians from MSU Denver formed a chamber group that focused on non-traditional chamber group repertoire.  Scott was tasked with arranging two pieces for the group.  The first was a film score medley featuring music of Michael Giacchino, Ramin Djawadi, and John Williams for piano, percussion, electric guitar, and classical guitar.  The other piece was a tribute to Danny Elfman that featured different film music from the composer.  This was arranged for piano, percussion, soprano saxophone, horn, and electric guitar.
